Happy Veterans Day!!!
Before I get started on today’s blog, I’d like to join my voice to those thanking our veterans today. My father was one who proudly served his country in Vietnam. My husband is one who also proudly served in Kuwait and Iraq. I am so proud of you both and grateful for what you did.

Bust Doubt and Be Happy
I also have to apologize for my absence. I’ve been dealing with illness and it has taken up much of my time.
I’ve been thinking a lot about doubt, particularly how it stops us from achieving goals. As I said before, setting and achieving goals can be a source of happiness, so anything that gets in the way can also interfere with our happiness. So, the central question is: how do we overcome doubt?
Maybe the answer lies in determining what doubt is. For me, it’s a belief that my obstacles will prevent me from doing what I want to do. Busting doubt then becomes changing that belief into in to a preferred one. Perhaps instead of believing that my obstacles will prevent me from doing what I want, I can choose to believe differently about my obstacles.
Let me get specific. One obstacle I have is around mobility. I also find that people make erroneous assumptions about my abilities, due to my mobility limitations and use of a wheelchair to overcome them. So almost unbidden, the belief arises that “no one will give me a chance to prove myself useful”. My evaluative brain then looks for evidence to support this belief and there is plenty.
However, I don’t find this particularly useful to achieving my goals.
What I have found helpful in the past is choosing to believe something different, like “everyone is on my side and wants me to succeed”. Or “I want me to succeed.” Then, my brain will look for evidence to support these beliefs and my goals are supported.
